Bitche, France

Day 12

Stats... 121km, 7hrs 25mins... ouch! Longest day so far. Left campsite at 9.15am, it was meant to be an early start but it seems the early night wasnt enough! Stopped in a local town for hot chocolate and pastry breakfast. We found the start of a bike path to Saarbruken alongside the river Saar. We left this path approx 5hrs later with the exception of a 10km diversion due to path closure. The riverside path was beautiful and enabled us to get loadsa clicks under our belt in a short time. There was a strong headwind as we broke away from the path and travelled East to Bitche. We were advised by several locals that there was definately a campsite there, however after reaching Bitche it appeared there was not a campsite here but there was one a further 6km in the wrong direction. As it was late we had no choice but to head for it. We passed through military land with gunshots firing left, right and centre... nothing to worry about im sure. Ariving at the campsite we set up and had dinner joined by millions of mossies and midges. Check out our photo for our defence against the biting beasts.
